Self-hosting guide
Budvo is one Docker container that runs on hardware you own: a NAS, a Mac mini, a home server or a Raspberry Pi. It keeps all of your financial data in an encrypted database and serves the web dashboard, which is where you use Budvo. The iOS app, when it arrives, connects to the same server.
Nothing about your money passes through NullDaily. There's no account to create with us and nothing to sign up for.
The short version
- Install the container with Docker Compose or a single
docker run. - Set it up: open the dashboard, enter the setup code from
docker logs budvo, choose a database password and save your recovery kit. - Add your money: accounts, cards, loans, BNPL plans, bills and your pay schedule.
Then, if you like:
- Reach it away from home with Cloudflare Tunnel or Tailscale.
- Turn on one-click updates and learn how backups and rollbacks work.
- Read the security model to see exactly what's encrypted and who can see what.
What you need
- A machine that stays on, with Docker (Docker Desktop, Docker Engine, or your NAS's container app).
- A little disk space. The image is small and your data takes megabytes, not gigabytes. A Raspberry Pi 4 is plenty.
- A modern browser on any device on your network.
